Understand the starting workflow
mail-tester asks you to send a message to a displayed test address. GlockApps describes inbox placement testing. That difference matters when choosing what to investigate first. We have not run a controlled side-by-side experiment or measured either service’s accuracy.
| Decision | mail-tester starting point | GlockApps starting point |
|---|---|---|
| I want to inspect a sample | Submitted-message check | Review the diagnostics required. |
| I need seed placement evidence | Do not infer this from a message score | Investigate the inbox-testing workflow. |
| I need a purchasing decision | Check current limits and terms | Check credits, billing and coverage. |
Use results in a sensible order
Begin by reviewing obvious configuration errors and whether you sent the intended message. Then investigate placement if that remains the unanswered question. If two tools show different outputs, first ask whether they measured the same thing. Avoid changing a template simply to chase a number without understanding the warning.
Keep comparisons reproducible
A fair worksheet should state the sender, transport, template, tracking setup, timestamp and result type. Do not compare a plain-text test sent manually with a production campaign sent through an ESP. Different routes create different evidence even when the visible wording is identical.
- Use non-sensitive representative content.
- Preserve the original headers privately.
- Label each output by what it measures.
- Separate observations from your proposed explanation.
Choose your next check
If you have not inspected a sample at all, a simple message check may be a useful starting point. If your unresolved question is seed placement, review a placement-testing service. If the problem is unauthorized use of your domain, read DMARC reports instead of repeating content checks.
A question worth asking
Can a good spam-test score coexist with poor inbox placement?
A favorable result from one type of check does not establish the outcome of another. Investigate the different signals and sending conditions rather than treating them as equivalent measurements.
Evidence Notes
Checked: Public documentation linked below and the decision framework described on this page.
Not independently tested: Product accuracy, paid account workflows, support or delivery outcomes.
Reader should verify: Current terms and suitability for the actual sending setup. Never change production DNS from a generic example.
Last checked: September 2026.
